An Acworth man is accused of strangling a woman.

Damu Lavar Abrams, 47, is accused of strangling the victim on May 31 between 6 and 6:30 a.m. at an Acworth residence, according to an arrest warrant from the Acworth Police Department.

Abrams is accused of following the victim into the bathroom where she was taking a shower and shattering the glass shower door and tearing the door frame off the wall with a kick, which caused lacerations to several parts of her body. Abrams then stepped into the shower, preventing the victim from escaping and grabbing her by the throat. The victim was strangled until she could not breathe, which resulted in her falling and receiving multiple lacerations to her back from the broken glass, according to the warrant.

Abrams is charged with aggravated assault strangulation; false imprisonment confinement; criminal damage – first degree; and battery – family violence. He was arrested on May 31 at 6:54 a.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records.

Abrams remains in custody without bond.
