MARIETTA — This week, the Cobb Board of Commissioners approved a rezoning request 4-0, with Chairwoman Lisa Cupid absent, for an Acworth residential senior-living community.

Creator’s Group Investments proposed a site plan for a senior residential living community of 39 homes on 11.8 acres at 2856 Wade Green Road, near the Shiloh Road Home Depot. The site plan also includes walking trails, a pavilion and sport courts.

Earlier this month, Kevin Moore, the attorney representing Creator’s, said the development would provide a needed solution to the growing senior population in the county.

According to the Atlanta Regional Commission, metro Atlanta has one of the fastest aging populations in the nation, with nearly one in five residents aged 60 and older.

Cobb Commissioner JoAnn Birrell, who represents the area, made several stipulations before the recommendation to approve the development.

Birrell added that a maximum of 39 homes can be built and there must be a 10% rental cap. In addition, all final site plan and building elevations are to be approved by the district commissioner as long as planning commission and staff comments are not otherwise in conflict.

During the Cobb Planning Commission meeting earlier this month, Planning Commissioner Christine Lindstrom added her own stipulations about how the construction site should be handled and that the developer must create a hard surface walkway between the sidewalk and the covered pavilion.
