Real Life Mama: Celebrating all the sober freedoms
As Independence Day approached this week, I started thinking about freedom and what that entails. This month, Lee and I will hit 18 months sober. And I couldn’t think of anything better to write about than the beautiful sober freedoms that we have encountered over the past year and a half.
Rain or Shine-great turnout for the Annual 'Youth Fishing Derby'
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The city of Lima and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources teaming up to teach area kids the art of fishing. Through the ODNR grant program, the annual "Youth Fishing Derby" saw parents teaching their children and kids teaching each other how to fish. Each child was provided bait and a fishing pole to keep. Local organizations and businesses sponsored a variety of prizes to give out to the kids, and the derby is a fun and relaxing way to learn the basics of casting, baiting, and removing a fish from the hook.

Crews ready to wow the crowds with fireworks display at the Star Spangled Spectacular
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - People from all over the region are looking forward to Lima's Star Spangled Spectacular, especially the fireworks show. Crews from Rozzi began setting up Thursday night's show on Wednesday. A little more than 900 shells are packed into the mortars and secured for the 20-minute synchronized show with the Lima Area Concert Band. They will be shot from just south of Safety City to explode over Faurot Park in a dazzling show. Some shells have been imported from several foreign countries to give more variety.
Kids in Lima Playground Program learn more about eating healthy thanks to SNAP-Ed program
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The kids in the Lima Playground Program get a little education with their fun this summer. On Wednesday, the Ohio State University Extension Office brought their SNAP-Ed program to Faurot Park to teach the kids about staying active and eating healthy. They learned different games and activities they could do. Plus, they got some tips about how they should be eating a wide variety of colors of fruits and vegetables for the various nutrients and what percentage of their daily eating should be made up by them.
ArtSpace to hold art sale during July 5th First Friday event in Downtown Lima
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - If you are a fan of art, you'll want to swing by Artspace/Lima on July 5, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. As part of the First Friday event on July 5th, they will be having an art sale. Staff have been going through items they have had in storage. It includes ceramics, posters, and artworks you can purchase at reasonable prices to take home with you. Bottom basement prices like a buck up to $5, with the proceeds going back into Artspace.
"Open Wall" exhibit opens at ArtSpace/Lima on July 9th
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - It's gearing up to be an interesting show next week at ArtSpace!. Much like an "open mic" night, Artspace/Lima presents its first "open wall" exhibit. It's a chance for individuals who dabble in the arts to have their work displayed in a gallery setting. Executive director Sally Windle says she is impressed with the quality and variety of work they received in the "first come, first served" call for work.
Lima Symphony Orchestra is changing inmates' lives through music
LIMA, Ohio (WKEF) -- Lima Symphony Orchestra made history the afternoon on Sunday, June 30, as the first full orchestra to perform inside an Ohio prison. The orchestra performed alongside the prison choir of more than 100 incarcerated men in the prison yard of Allen-Oakwood Correctional Institution (AOCI). The Patriotic Pops concert was the first time the Ohio Department of Corrections had ever allowed a full symphony orchestra to perform in a prison.
