A father and son from Tennessee promised never to eat cheaply again after winning $1million on the lottery .

The dad - who decided to remain anonymous - bought the scratch-off ticket for $20 at a gas station in Adairville, Kentucky on Saturday, June 8, around 12 miles away from Springfield, Tennessee where his son lives. He told Kentucky Lottery : “I said [to the clerk], ‘If I hit this million dollars, I ain’t ever eating bologna again'."

The top prize was revealed within the first couple of rows of the $1,000,000 Casino Nights Kentucky Lottery game and he matched the three key symbols next to the top prize amount. “It kind of shocked me,” the dad said. In a state of disbelief, he immediately called his son to share the good news.

“He went, ‘You’ll never believe what I just did,’” his son Jody - who decided not to share his surname - told lottery officials. “And, I said, ‘what?’ He said, ‘We just won a $1,000,000!’ I was sitting there thinking, yeah right, I don’t believe you!”

Jody said his dad then quickly made his way over to his home across the state border were the pair made plans to drive to Kentucky Lottery Headquarters the following Monday to claim their huge winnings. After arriving there on June 10 the father and son opted for a lump sum of $700,000 instead of the full amount in annual payments over 30 years.

Since they went for the lump sum payout, lottery officials said they took home a total check for $504,000 after taxes. Despite their new-found riches, the dad still kept up his house chores and said he jumped on his lawnmower to trim the yard over the weekend while they waited to cash in the winning ticket.

The son revealed their plans for the money, including wanting to invest some of it once all their debts and have been paid off. “Houses are paid off. Cars paid off, done. We will be bill-free probably next week. You become debt-free, and you don’t have any bills," an excited Jody said. They weren't the only ones benefitting from the win, though, as the gas station where the ticket was bought will also receive a check for $7,000 for selling the lucky ticket.
