Four Gourmet Hot Dog Spots in Chicago you have to try!
2021-06-29
Living in the Windy City, we all know that the hot dog is as Chicago as the skyline itself. This city has its food staples and it is darn are proud of them. In fact, it’s one of the reasons we enjoy living here so much! Here are a few of our favorite spots in Chicago that serve up gourmet hot dogs and sausages with a twist.
Dog Haus Biergarten
Dog Haus is actually a chain from California that has in recent years expanded into Chicago. They do not have a “Chicago Dog” on the menu which we think is okay. They are going for something different with their hot dogs and sausages and we are here for it. They use only the highest quality hormone free meat for their sausages and avoid any additives. Their “clean meat” promise is only an added bonus to the flavor they are serving up.
Our favorite is the “Cowboy” which is a bacon wrapped dog topped with BBQ sauce, fried onions and cheddar cheese. Another great on the menu is the “Fonz” which is an Italian sausage topped with pastrami and mozzarella. If you want more than just a traditional hotdog then this is the spot for you.
Dog Haus is located on 2464 N. Lincoln Avenue in Lincoln Park.
The Duck Inn
The Duck Inn has been a star in the Bridgeport neighborhood since 2014. What was once a pre-prohibition era tavern is now home to this innovative gastropub. Why do we love it? Not only do they make an incredible roast duck, but they also have an award-winning duck fat dog on their menu. Their duck fat dog has been awarded “top dog” by the Food Network and has garnered a slew of accolades since coming on the scene.
There are a number of styles in which you can order their delicious duck and beef sausage. If you’re a traditionalist like we are, a classic Chicago style can’t be beat. They have a delicious chili dog topped with a spicy duck chili. This special hot dog will set you back $12, but it is worth every penny.
The Duck Inn is located at 2701 S. Eleanor in Bridgeport.
Flub a Dub Chub
Flub a Dub Chub is definitely a quirky name for a restaurant, but they do take their food very seriously. This Lakeview spot is always featured on Chicago’s best hot dog lists. They do serve up a great Chicago style hot dog, called a “flubby”, but their menu doesn’t stop there.
We personally love the Reuban dog topped with kraut and 1000 island dressing. Another great option is the “pulled pork chub dog” topped with pulled pork and BBQ sauce. You also have the option to bacon wrap any of their menu items. Their hot dogs start at $7 and go up from there. That’s a little pricier than your run of the mill hot dog stands, but Flub’s is worth it.
Flub a Dub Chub is located at 3021 North Broadway in Lakeview.
Original Chicago’s Dog House
Original Chicago’s Dog House is serving up a lot more than just hot dogs. This Lincoln Park spot prides itself on serving not just specialty hot dogs but gourmet sausages as well. We love speciality hot dogs like they serve up here and just reading the menu makes us hungry.
Forget all beef hot dogs, Chicago’s Dog House has wagyu beef hot dogs and apple brandy duck sausages. They also serve up exotic meats such as alligator, rattlesnake, and wild boar. If all that is a little too much for you, they do serve up classic dogs and a traditional maxwell street polish as well. They also sell all of their specialty sausages to go so you can impress your friends at your next backyard cookout.
Original Chicago’s Dog House is located at 816 West Fullerton Avenue in Lincoln Park.
