The Transitions Program of the Workforce & Business Development Program (W&B) at the Community Action Committee of Pike County (CAC) will be hosting a community event, “RISE ABOVE: An Event Celebrating Recovery in Pike County” on Wednesday, October 9th from 5 to 8pm at the Pike County Fairgrounds (311 Mill Street, Piketon). This event will focus on uniting the community in celebrating the commitment of those who are continuing their sobriety from Substance Use Disorder (SUD).

This event will host representatives from area agencies to showcase the supportive services to eligible clients ranging from employment opportunities to educational services, as well as counseling and other services. There will be complementary food available to attendees catered by Fat Dave’s Catering. In addition, there will be family-friendly activities available and guest speakers who will be sharing their personal experiences with SUD and their journey toward sobriety.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC)’s National Center for Health Statistics, the Drug Overdose Mortality Rate by state shows 45.6 percent of deaths in 2022 were caused by opioid deaths, resulting in 5,144 deaths that year. In addition, the White Light Behavioral Health report states that Ohio ranks as one of the Top Five states in the Nation that is struggling with substance abuse. The result being that almost 700,000 Ohio residents (ages 12 and above) require drug rehabilitation services and treatment every year.

“The statistics illustrate the devastating impact of the Opioid Epidemic in our area, which is why it is vital that we take this opportunity as a community to celebrate those who are committed to overcoming SUD,” stated Christina Beekman, Case Management Coordinator in the Transitions Program. “Our team works diligently with those in recovery as they work to rebuild their independence. We want to bring the community together to join in celebrating the hard work and dedication that people are making every day to rise above this condition.”

There is no cost to attend the event, and is open the public. For more information, please contact Christina Beekman at (740) 289 – 2371 ext. 7268 or cbeekman@pikecac.org or visit workforcebusinessdevelopment.org. Information is also available on our Facebook pages (W&B and CAC Transitions).
