    Two teens accused of starting fire at Green Hill Park, causing $230k in damages

    FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) said charges were filed against two teenage boys who were accused of setting Green Hill Park on fire last month.

    On June 29, just before 4:45 p.m., crews with the Frederick County Fire and Rescue were called to the park in the 2800 block of Decatur Drive in Adamstown for a playground on fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire.

    Officials said the blaze left numerous pieces of playground equipment damaged, resulting in a $230,000 loss.

    During the investigation, detectives identified two brothers, 14 and 15, who were allegedly responsible for setting the park on fire. According to FCSO, the brothers lit tissues under the park equipment and took pictures and videos of the fire.

    The Sheriff’s Office said the brothers were referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice for malicious burning and malicious destruction of property.

    “The successful resolution of this case is directly attributed to the assistance
    received from numerous residents of the neighborhood that provided invaluable
    information and videos to detectives in this case. We are very grateful for their
    assistance,” said the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, in a news release.
