Scrimmage Tonight for Perry Football
Perry football will have their lone scrimmage tonight before the games count for real next week. The Bluejays travel to Carroll to take on the Tigers. The former Raccoon River Conference mates will both look to get into game shape for their season openers. Historically, when these two have met in games that matter Carroll has been victorious. Since the turn of the century Carroll has won eight straight. Perry is coming off a 2-7 year while Carroll was 3-6. The Bluejays open the regular season next week on Thursday, August 29 at Des Moines Hoover. Carroll is preparing for their game next week at Greene County on Friday, August 30. Tonight’s game will be played at Carroll Athletic Stadium. Kick off is set for 7P.
Meet the Players Night At WCV
Wildcat football and volleyball are in scrimmage action today for Meet the Players night at West Central Valley. The volleyball action begins at 3PM, followed by a free will donation fun zone for kids at the baseball and softball field, and a parade of athletes for all the fall activities before the football scrimmage against the Madrid Tigers at 7PM. After the football scrimmage, there will be a foam party for everyone in attendance.
Norwalk Girls Cross Country sets high goals for upcoming season
With a mix of varsity veterans and promising freshmen on the roster, the Norwalk girls cross country team has set their goals high for the 2024 season. Coach Michelle Wiedmann brings back several experienced runners from last year’s squad, which placed fifth at the Little Hawkeye Conference Meet and sixth at the Class 4A State Qualifying Meet. Wiedmann’s 30-girl roster also includes a large number of young runners, adding depth and competition for the top seven varsity spots.
Oktoberfest Fun for the Whole Family in Des Moines
It’s hard to resist the fun that comes each year with Oktoberfest — German food, games, music, dancing, lederhosen, and some of the best beer around! Oktoberfest is one of the biggest annual events in Germany, celebrated from the end of September through the first Sunday in October (September 21 – October 6, 2024). But with all the German history right here in Central Iowa, it’s a fun occasion to celebrate in Des Moines, too.
Man Found Shot to Death in Davenport Parking Lot Early Saturday
Davenport, IA – A man was found shot to death in a parking lot early Saturday morning in Davenport. Police responded to the 100 block of West River Drive around 12:24 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered the adult male victim, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Atlantic Opens Football Season With Some Newcomers on Defense
(Atlantic) Atlantic and Council Bluffs, Jefferson opens the season in a week 0 game tonight. The Trojans will have a lot of new faces on defense. The Trojans must find a replacement for Colton Becker, an all-district linebacker for the Trojans lost to graduation. Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer says Jake Wailes will fill that spot this season.
Iowa Teen Caught Going Over 120 mph On a Suspended License
An Iowa teenager landed in the hottest of waters after being caught going well over 100 mph near Ottumwa. The kicker? He was driving on a suspended license. The Iowa State Patrol are hoping this serves as a reminder for parents to talk to their children who are just starting to drive or are actively learning the Rules of the Road about the dangers of excessive speed.
Perry Will Kickoff RVTV Event on Labor Day Prior to Cy-Hawk Game
The City of Perry is gearing up for an exciting event at the beginning of September revolving around football. Perry was picked as the first location to host the RVTV Tailgate Kickoff on Monday, September 2nd in anticipation for the in-state rivalry football game between the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State University Cyclones. Perry Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti reveals that a grand entrance will happen around 11am to generate excitement, but the bulk of activities are taking place in the afternoon from 3-8pm. She says regardless whether you’re cheering for the Cyclones or Hawkeyes, this will be a way to celebrate the community.
Warren County Economic Development Hosts Video on Understanding Property Tax
The City of Indianola, City of Norwalk, Warren County, and Warren County Economic Development partnered for a discussion on understanding property taxes last week. The video features information regarding the property tax statement sent out to property owners, where tax dollars are being used, and for what purpose. Warren County Economic Development also provided an informational sheet residents can view.
