In the High Desert's "City with Unlimited Possibilities," Marycarmen Ruiz, Oscar Ruiz, and Alicia Urena-Esquivel have found their carb-loaded niche among the 26,000 undeveloped acres of Adelanto.

The trio is bringing a new flavor to the town in the form of Bread Love, a business that has been years in the making, the owners told the Daily Press.

"I've watched Adelanto grow so much since I've lived up here," Oscar said. "We jumped at the possibility to contribute to the town's development with our bakery."

The new bakery is neighbored by Louisiana Fried Chicken and G. Family Beauty on Cactus Road and Highway 395. Their "country-style" wooded store is in its soft opening phase, set to host a hard opening in late July/ early August.

    What's on the menu?

The Hesperia couple Oscar and Marycarmen started their baked goods and sandwich booth at various farmers markets around the Inland Empire and Los Angeles County amid the 2020 pandemic.

Their sister-in-law, Urena-Esquivel, has been in the food industry for over 15 years and is the mastermind behind the sweet-glazed danishes, gooey cinnamon rolls, and other mouth-watering pastries.

Marycarmen has one eager-eyed idea after the next for the future of her store. She eventually wants to incorporate pan dulces such as conchas , marranitos , and other seasonal panes into the menu.

She also hopes to keep the store open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. once they get the hang of things. Remote workers and students will finally have a late-night coffee spot to call their own after the rest of the High Desert has gone home for dinner.

Oscar and Urena-Esquivel may be the engineers behind many of Bread Love sandwiches, but Marycarmen is pushing the bakery boundaries with her out-of-the-bread-box ideas.

"We're going to be offering Mexican with a twist, like a fusion," she said. "Don't knock birria on ciabatta until you've tried it."

While they finalize logistics and receive the final oven parts needed to start infusing their store with the warm scent of freshly baked bread, bread is baked down the hill at their partner store, Old Town Baking Company.

Until then, expect to find a selection of sourdough at Bread Love like jalapeno cheese, asiago cheese, cranberry walnut, whole wheat, and plain sourdough. Once Bread Love is baking in-house, they plan to include more rustic-style loaves to the menu like buttermilk and French baguettes.

The Bagelicious bagel sandwich comes with a pillow-fluffed cream cheese and a fresh bean sprout crunch. The Grated Egg Toast with avocado and Sriracha sauce is recommended to all first-time customers.

Other menu items include, but aren't limited to:

    • Egg and ham breakfast sandwich
    • Sunny side bagel
    • French toast with berries
    • Pull apart French toast
    • Avocado toast
    • Chicken salad sandwich

During the soft opening, Bread Love is open from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A loaf of bread is $8 but they offer 2 for $15 or 3 for $22 bundle deals.

There are no preservatives in their ingredients, making their products some of the freshest and healthiest in the area. As a result, the shelf life is 5 days, 7-10 days if kept in the fridge.

"Happy is an understatement," Marycarmen told the Daily Press. "The healthy food at Bread Love is our way of giving back to the community, especially in an area that is constantly developing and growing."

Bread Love owners say they are excited to start feeding Adelanto.
