The Colburn School’s Music Academy is to be headed by the US violinist Margaret Batjer, concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra since 1998. Batjer, 65, will give up her professorship at USC Thornton School of Music but will continue to play, apparently with the LACO.

Teen swimmer goes missing in ocean, triggering search off Huntington Beach
Search crews on Monday were scanning the water off Huntington Beach for a teen who was swept away while swimming.The urgent search started Sunday night after authorities say two teens went swimming in the area near lifeguard tower 11. One did not make it back to shore.The Huntington Beach Fire Department says they were alerted around 9 p.m. Divers and swimmers searching for the teen were pulled out of the water around 10:40 p.m.The identity or age of the missing teen has not been released.The Orange County Sheriff's Department was assisting the search with a helicopter and lifeguards from Newport Beach and state parks also provided resources.
