On Friday afternoon, Joliet Police officers responded to Joliet West High School after a rumor was spread that someone with a gun was on the premises. The officers then placed the school on lockdown so that they could perform their search and hold protocol.

After a thorough search of the premises inside and outside of the school, the lockdown was lifted. Children were then able to go home at around 4:15 PM.

Fortunately, nothing happened because the consequences would have been dire. Around 3,500 students are enrolled at Joliet West High School. Even though metal detectors are at different checkpoints throughout the campus, this method is not 100% fullproof. For now, it seems like that this incident was a Friday the 13th prank.
