The decision to end the Jefferson Bank Commemorative Protest was an agonizing one for me. I respect the rationale shared by those closest to the initial protest to find more creative and relevant ways to memorialize the protest that still reverberates with those in the ongoing struggle for basic human rights for Black workers. The way the white power structure (as it was called in back in the day) linked arms to crush the protest rarely gets attention. It is a valuable case study for those who want to fight seriously for transformative change. You cannot underestimate the power of your oppressors.

The pink and lavender hues folded into the night sky as The Doobie Brothers took to the stage at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in St. Louis County at 8:30 p.m. on this warm Saturday night. The older crowd rose to their feet cheering and clapping. The band got down to business kicking off their 105-minute set with the classic cover of Eddie Holland’s “Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While)” and then slid into “Here to Love You.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The intense heat continues through tomorrow with Heat Advisories in place through 8 p.m. Monday. The heat index will reach the triple digits with actual temperatures flirting with the triple digits in several locations. The heat continues as the 90s are forecasted through Thursday. A first warn is in place Tuesday as showers and storms roll through the area. Some storms could be on the strong to severe side. By Thursday, another first warn is in place as a front moves through bringing showers and storms for the evening hours. Right now, there is not a severe risk associated with this system. Behind the front temperatures dive into the 80s and even the 70s are possible by Sunday! The rain chance continues through the weekend, but no day looks like a washout.

LIBERTY, Mo. (KCTV) - A man caught leaving a Liberty construction site with stolen equipment has been charged after an early morning traffic stop led to his arrest. Clay County, Missouri, Circuit Court records indicate that on Thursday, Aug. 22, Scott A. Bilquist, 37, of Gladstone, was arrested and charged with stealing after he was caught leaving a construction site at Vintage Lane and Buckingham Drive.
