Thornton native wins Mrs. Agriculture USA 2024
THORNTON W.Va – After representing West Virginia for a year, Taylor County native Grace Austin-Trboyevich was named Mrs. Agriculture USA 2024. Miss Agriculture USA, a national nonprofit organization, runs through all 50 states, inviting all ages from two years old and beyond. Austin-Trboyevich started her journey with the organization by applying to be West Virginia’s queen in 2023.

Tug, Mingo play in ‘King of the Queen’ Seven on Seven
The Tug Valley and Mingo Central football teams competed in the “King of the Queen” Seven on Seven football event at Man High School's George A. Queen Memorial Field on Thursday, June 6. Also taking part in the summer event were Man, Scott, Chapmanville, Westside, Mount View and Wahama. Mingo Central has three quarterbacks vying for the starting job in Brennon Harrison, Caden Porter and Tug Valley transfer Jaxon Nenni-Mills. Tug Valley starting QB Preston May, a sophomore, is back for the Panthers. Both MCHS and Tug made it to the playoffs last year.

Two Mountain State volunteer fire departments benefit from the Lowes Hometowns program this year
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Lowe’s Home Improvement will perform nearly $200,000 at two volunteer fire department facilities in the state. Lowe’s District Manager Brittany Roberts said they’ll do the work through the Lowe’s Hometowns program. Materials are provided and associates participate in completing the projects, but members of the community are encouraged to help as well.
Severe Weather Threatens Parts of West Virginia as Cold Front Moves Through
Charleston, WV – Severe weather continues to threaten parts of West Virginia tonight as a cold front moves through the area. According to the US National Weather Service in Charleston, residents should anticipate spotty showers and storm activity overnight into Saturday morning. Low temperatures will range from the mid-60s to low 70s in the lowlands and mid-60s in the mountains. The severe storm risk remains in effect until the cold front exits by Saturday morning.
