Ford, Fain Spar Over Ongoing UAW Strike

    2023-10-16

Union leader suggests possibility of expanding strike

United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain responded quickly to Ford's Executive Chair, Bill Ford's plea for the UAW to end a strike occurring at Ford and two other major U.S. automakers.

Ford made remarks at the company's Rouge truck plant in Dearborn, Michigan.

He suggested the company may not be able to expand to build new plants or offer new products if the strike continues and called on the UAW to end the current strike.

In a socia media post, Fain said of Ford's remarks:

“Bill Ford knows exactly how to settle this strike. Instead of threatening to close the Rouge, he should call up [Ford President] Jim Farley, tell him to stop playing games and get a deal done, or we’ll close the Rouge for him."

    Fain added:

"If Ford wants to be the all-American auto company, they can pay all-American wages and benefits."
