Aprea Seeking Re-Election to School Board

    2024-01-03

5th district board member files petition to run for second term

A former public school teacher is now seeking a second term on the Williamson County School Board.

Jennifer Aprea, the current representative of the 5th district representing the Nolensville area, has filed a petition to again be a candidate for the seat. Aprea first won the seat in the 2020 election.

In an announcement press release, Aprea highlighted the experiences she says make her qualified for another term on the board.

“As a current WCS parent, volunteer, and engaged Board member, I feel strongly that our rapidly growing area deserves continuity in their representation which is why I’m choosing to run for another 4-year term serving their needs,” says Aprea. “As a former public school teacher and mother of two kids in Williamson County Schools, I have a unique set of lived experiences that have been instrumental in my ability to listen to and advocate for all the voices that need to be heard in our community. My primary focus for this first four-year term has been improving transparency, communication, and community engagement, and I feel we have already seen the vast improvements in those areas. I would love to continue this work for the next four-year term.”

Her announcement included a clear statement that she wants the district to trust education professionals. She stated she plans to continue resisting efforts to limit the availability of books in school libraries.

“I feel very strongly that by putting restrictions on students and families’ rights to check out books from a library, especially our older students, our high school students, goes against what we should stand for as a district. And so, I just want to re-emphasize that we are trying to trust our professionals.”

Aprea is a former public school teacher at the elementary level. She is also the parent of a child with disabilities. She serves as the Director of Family Engagement for Special Education at The Arc of Tennessee.
