Local Democrats Announce School Board Candidates

    2024-01-04

Party fields candidates in four districts in 2024 races

The Williamson County Democratic Party (WCDP) has announced a slate of four candidates running for school board in the 2024 election cycle.

The candidates are Elmer Mobely in District 1, Diane Cochran in District 3, Shandus Parish in District 9, and Laura Granere in District 11.

In a media release, the WCDP outlined the issues it says these candidates will support.

"These individuals will prioritize the true issues the school board faces such as appropriate teacher pay, increased funding, ample transportation, and the  proper safety of our students."

Here's more information on each of the candidates:

    Moberly, District 1

Elmer is a longtime Williamson County resident who grew up in Franklin. He went to Franklin High  School and graduated from the University of Kentucky. He has two daughters, the youngest being a student at Fairview High School. Elmer’s been involved in PTO and other parent-supported  opportunities with the Williamson County School System.

    Cochran, District 3

Diane has resided in Spring Hill for over 15 years and two of her three adult children graduated from  Williamson County Schools. Diane’s career as an Applications Engineer as well as her time in the U.S.  Navy have given her the discipline and ingenuity required of any public servant.

    Parish, District 9

Shandus is a lifelong Tennessean and has lived in Franklin for the last seven years. She has two children  currently enrolled in the Williamson County School system (3rd and 6th grades) which makes her a well informed candidate. Her master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, seven years working in a  university environment, and current employment in human resources more than qualifies her to be a  member of the school board.

    Granere, District 11

Laura has four adult children who all attended Williamson County Schools. As she prepares for her grandchildren to soon be in our classrooms, she’s passionate about preserving the high level of  education she believes their parents received.
