Biden Budget Boosts Education: $450M for Kids

    2024-03-12

Group praises $450 million in public education investments

A public education advocacy group is praising President Joe Biden's recently released federal budget, saying it contains funding for programs that benefit kids across America.

In an email to supporters, the Network for Public Education (NPE) pointed to key items in the Biden budget as wins for public schools.

NPE's executive director, Carol Burris, said of the budget, "This budget is the mirror opposite of budget proposals by the present House leadership that slash funding to children served by critical programs like Title I while proposing an increase to the already bloated Federal Charter School Programs (CSP)."

The group called out three specific investments it says will have benefits across the country.

    • An increase of $200 million for Title I, which provides supplemental financial assistance to schools with a high percentage of children from low-income families.
    • An increase of $200 million to IDEA to support the needs of students with disabilities.
    • An additional $50 million for full-service Community Schools (FSCS) grants.

Burris added, "We thank the President and Secretary Cardona for preparing a sound budget that puts students first in a time of fiscal restraint."
