UAW Unionization: Lamar Backs VW Workers

    2024-04-17

Senate leader says Volkswagen workers win with union vote

The Chair of Tennessee's Senate Democratic Caucus is lending her voice to workers seeking to organize a United Auto Workers (UAW) union at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga.

Sen. London Lamar of Memphis issued a statement of support for workers ahead of the unionization vote this week at the Chattanooga plant.

“Unlike Tennessee’s governor, we applaud Volkswagen workers for engaging in the democratic process and we would welcome the UAW’s expansion in Chattanooga," Lamar said.

“The sky is the limit for Volkswagen in Tennessee when workers have a seat at the table and share in the company’s success. A good job has always meant dignity and security for a family — and that’s worth fighting for.”

The contracts between the Uaw and the big three the only thing that came out of the contract was the hourly wage increase. They didn't get a lot of what they were asking for 32 hour work week getting rid of the remaining tiers pension retirement health care they received cost of living it was so small didn't make a difference. The only reason they passed was the newer workers seen the pay increase which was good but now some are being laid off some of the work is being moved to other facilities.
