Commanding officer of USS Georgia removed by Navy

It was on Friday that the Navy decided to terminate the commanding officer of the blue crew of the submarine Georgia.

The Navy made the announcement on Monday that it has removed Captain Geoffry Patterson from his position as the commanding officer of the blue crew. Patterson had been in charge of the vessel since May 2022. The Navy stated that they had "lost confidence" in his capacity to command.

There was no additional information released by the Navy detailing the reason why Patterson was relieved, as was the case with earlier CO reliefs.

The Georgia is currently being led by Captain Christopher Osborn, who is the commanding officer of the gold crew of the submarine. According to the Navy, there is no threat to the operations that are currently taking place.

This submarine is homeported at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay in Georgia, which is also the location where all Ohio-class submarines that operate along the East Coast are stationed.

According to a statement released by the Navy on Monday, "Navy commanding officers are held to high standards of personal and professional conduct." "The Navy holds them accountable when they fail to meet the standards that are expected of them, and they are expected to uphold the highest standards of responsibility, reliability, and leadership."

Patterson, who was born in Chicago and initially entered the Navy as an enlisted sailor, is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Patterson had his initial military service in the Navy.

During the course of this year, he is the first commanding officer that the Navy has relieved.
