Missy Elliott has officially become the third female rapper in U.S. history to gross over $2 million from a single concert.

According to Touring Data, the legendary rapper, singer-songwriter, and producer joins the list with Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj. With her unique style, innovative sound, and powerful performances, Missy Elliott continues to break barriers and remains a vital force in Hip-Hop.

In a separate post, the rap icon achieved her highest-grossing concert ever on Aug. 8, 2024, bringing in $2.05 million at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. during her “Out of This World Tour.”

As AFROTECH reported, Missy Elliott made NASA history when lyrics from her song “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” were transmitted approximately 158 million miles to reach Venus via NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN).

To date, NASA has only transmitted one other song to space — The Beatles’ “Across the Universe” — making “The Rain” the first Hip-Hop track sent beyond Earth. Elliott celebrated the milestone on X, writing, “YOOO this is crazy! We just went #OutOfThisWorld with @NASA and sent the FIRST hip hop song into space through the Deep Space Network. My song ‘The Rain’ has officially been transmitted all the way to Venus, the planet that symbolizes strength, beauty and empowerment. The sky is not the limit, it’s just the beginning.”

Timbaland gave Elliott her flowers during the 2023 AFROTECH Conference, where he shared that his successful career as a producer would not have been possible without her influence. The four-time Grammy winner recalled how his love for music began in childhood, initially aspiring to be a DJ rather than a producer.

At last year’s conference, Timbaland reflected on a challenging time that prompted him to start creating beats with a Casio keyboard his mother gave him. He creatively manipulated the keyboard’s one-second sampler to develop unique sounds.

“Once I found that I could do that, and it worked, then came along, you know, Magoo, he was always around as my friend, but not rapping, but he introduced me to the one who really started me and said I had a gift. [It] was Missy Elliott,” Timbaland shared at AFROTECH Conference.

“So if it wasn’t for Missy, I probably wouldn’t be Timbaland today,” he added. “She was the one that said, ‘Yo, you have a gift. Your sound is unique’ when I thought my sound was trash, but she thought it was unique and she pushed me to go super hard. And that’s when I knew that I wanted to be a producer.”
