Isolated Storms Sunday with Higher Rain Chances Overnight & Monday
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) -We’re starting the day with isolated showers across Eastern Iowa. We’ll see isolated showers and a few rumbles of thunder through the morning, mainly along and east of I-380. The chance for rain will gradually decrease this afternoon, but one or two storms later in the day can’t be ruled out. Most of the area will enjoy a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon with highs rising into the low to mid 80s.

Wheat yields improve for Iowa farmer
PACIFIC JUNCTION, Iowa — John Stouder was looking for more bang for his buck with his crop acres and he thought he would give wheat a try. Stouder, who farms near Pacific Junction in Mills County, Iowa, grew wheat in 2023, but severe drought conditions limited yields to 59 bushels per acre.
Kelly Hammond Temporarily Named Head Coach for WCV Volleyball
With July coming to an end and August on the horizon, fall sports at West Central Valley are beginning to ramp up. With open gyms for volleyball available at West Central Valley, Kelly Hammond has been tasked with getting the Wildcat girls in shape before the season starts. Hammond, who originally is the assistant coach for the Wildcat volleyball team, has been named head coach while coach Jami Schmitz is on maternity leave.

Wonder on Buxton Project First Statue Dedication Ceremony
The first of six statues was dedicated Saturday in front of the Warren County Administration Building for the Wonder on Buxton Project, an effort to connect the Indianola downtown square to Simpson College by highlighting the best part of Indianola, Warren County, our collective history, and some of the biggest institutions in the area. Heidi Levine with Indianola Hometown Pride tells KNIA News the statues will be put on Buxton Street, and with that will be a storytelling experience.
National Balloon Classic Mass Ascension Tonight
The 2024 National Balloon Classic is in full swing, with competition flights each morning at 6:30am, and festivities and live music beginning at 6:30pm. Executive Director Staci Scheurenbrand tells KNIA News those attending can park for free, and tickets are available online or from local partners such as the Indianola HyVee. Brad Seidenfeld is on the TruBank Live Stage tonight, with a Mass Ascension beginning at 6:30pm. KNIA will have daily updates on the National Balloon Classic, and will announce if weather impacts the event each day. Hagedorn Named Captain as Four Tigers Make Class 4A Tournament Team in Softball
Photo belongs to Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Four players from the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball team earned a spot on the 2024 All-Tournament Team. Following the conclusion of the Class 4A Softball Championship game between the ADM Tigers and Carlisle Wildcats, the all-tournament team was announced. The Tigers that were named included Sophomore Ellis Smith, Junior Aniston Tollari, Senior Cameran Smith, and Sophomore Lauren Hagedorn, who was recognized as the team captain.
