‘90s rock band to perform in Central NY after releasing first new album in 15 years
The Black Crowes are coming to Central New York to celebrate the first new album in 15 years. The ‘90s rock band will perform at the Event Center at Turning Stone in Verona, N.Y., on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025. No opening act has been named for the concert, which begins at 8 p.m.
More than 1,000 without power in Syracuse suburbs as storms blow through
Syracuse, N.Y. — More than 1,000 people were without power near Syracuse after storms blew through the region Monday evening. The outages were concentrated in the northern suburban towns of Clay and Salina, according to National Grid’s website. Power was expected to be restored to the 1,290 affected customers around 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Syracuse seeks new housing at site where restaurant operated for nearly a century
Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse officials are trying to bring housing to the site of a once-iconic South Side Syracuse restaurant. Mayor Ben Walsh’s administration plans to seek proposals for redevelopment of the former Cafe Garzone at 2426 South Ave. The family-owned restaurant operated there from 1921 through 2010. The city seized it in 2014 due to more than $76,000 in back taxes and late fees that hadn’t been paid since 2006.
Syracuse women’s basketball: two former Orange earn roster spots for 2024 Olympics
A pair of memorable Syracuse Orange women’s basketball players are heading off to Paris to compete in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Former center Kayla Alexander and former guard Alexis Peterson officially earned roster spots to compete for the Canadian and German national teams, respectively. Alexander and Peterson both evolved into two of arguably the best players in Syracuse women’s basketball history during the 2010s. Now, they’re off to compete along with their respective teams this summer at the Olympics.

Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) has been recognized as a 2024-25 Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report, ranking in the top 15 in the state. SBUH climbed to a No. 12 ranking overall in New York State out of more than 153 hospitals statewide, up from No. 13 in the state last year. In addition to ranking in the top 8% overall in New York State, SBUH also rated high performing in 5 adult specialties nationwide, including Geriatrics, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Urology and Pulmonology & Lung Surgery. St Zita’s Village, the 14-acre property at the corner of North Saddle River Dr. and Grove Street, has been sold for $12 million dollars.
