Rockton's Keefer Nature Reserve is home to NLI August Tree of the Month: a Chinkapin Oak
The William and Gayle Keefer Nature Reserve in Rockton, Ill., a 36-acre natural area owned by Natural Land Institute (NLI), is home to the August tree of the month: a Chinkapin Oak (Quercus muehlenbergii). The height of this Chinkapin is 82.5 feet, the average crown spread is 73.25 feet and the trunk circumference is 112 inches. Though the NLI doesn't claim this as a state record tree, it is about as tall as this oak variety gets. The April, May and June trees of the month are likely to be state records.
Brooklyn celebrates National Night Out
The Village of Brooklyn held its National Night Out event on Thursday, Aug. 8 at Legion Park. Participants included the Dane County Sheriff’s Department, Brooklyn Public Works Department, Brooklyn Fire & EMS, SnoHornets/SnoBlazers, Mighty Mights 4-H, Optimist Club, American Legion, Methodist Church, Sue Moreland – Color Street, the Brooklyn Historical Society, the Oregon Senior Center, and the Brooklyn Dairy Queen, Lindsey Kramer.

A group of Stoughton Area School District music students - Cassidy C., Saphira F., Kloe J., Summer K., Adam M., Jacob S. and Fiona R. - were selected to represent Wisconsin as part of the Junior All-Stars, and recently performed with the group at iconic locations like Pearl Harbor and Kapi’olani Park Bandstand.

Thane B. Anderson DDS is growing. The dental practice has been in its current location at 1520 Vernon Street since 1978 and Dr. Thane Anderson purchased the practice from Dr. Richard Albright in 2005. In 2023, the adjacent space became available and the business purchased it and decided to build it out, with Thane's brother, Thor Anderson, the owner of Yahara Dental, and the independent dental practices now co-own the suites in the building.
