AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – A notification was released after sewage discharged into the Connecticut River in Agawam.

According to the Agawam DPW, an unknown amount of untreated sewage, waste, and rainwater was dumped into the river between 6:47 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday from the Riverview Pump Station. This is located at 36 Main Street in Agawam.

The public is advised to avoid the water in communities bordering the Connecticut River in Agawam and Longmeadow. This includes swimming, fishing, and boating, for 48 hours after the discharge has stopped due to increased health risks from bacteria and other pollutants.

On Wednesday there will be a few scattered showers, especially in the afternoon with the chance for an isolated thunderstorm. High temperatures will be in the middle 70s to 80s degrees with high humidity.
