AHOSKIE – Ahoskie Thrift Store held its grand reopening Tuesday, July 2 at their new location at 960 South Academy Street.

Dr. Daniel Lee Smith Sr., Pastor of the Ahoskie Christian Center who manages the Thrift Store, invited patrons, staff members and others to join in the ribbon cutting ceremony. He gave a heartfelt welcome and thanks to those in attendance.

After a brief prayer, the ribbon was cut signifying the opening of the store at the new address.

Refreshments were offered as well as free t-shirts and tote bags adorned with a festive American flag on its side.

A 20% discount was given for the day’s purchases. Folks got busy picking out clothes, shoes, purses, and outfits by the armful. Among other items to choose from were toys, dolls, pictures, furniture, crystal, small kitchen appliances, jewelry, movies and many other things. There was something for everyone to choose from.

One customer stated, “I just love a thrift store. One will sure be able to catch a deal.”

Staff at the store are upbeat and friendly. They welcome each customer, engaging in conversation while offering help. They always remember to thank their customers for coming whether they purchase or did not see anything this time around they could use.

Simpson Holloman has been the store’s Assistant Manager since 2020. She loves talking and praying with people when there is a need. She greets everyone, including the staff each day with a smile and a hello.

Pastor Smith notes as the Ahoskie Thrift Store transitions to its new location, it is taking every opportunity to say “Thank you” to the many loyal donors and customers who have entered their doors since December 2019.

Organized as part of the Ahoskie Christian Ministries, the thrift store has been a consistent source of financial support for local ministries, including the Ahoskie Family Resource Center, Hertford-Bertie Community Foundation, and the First Baptist Church Community Benevolence Program.
