Two Warren County agencies have started a free van service for senior citizens and military veterans. The Warren/Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging and Warren County Veterans’ Services have teamed up to offer this senior transportation program. The service, which started on January 2, 2024, is for individuals over 60 and veterans of any age in the Glens Falls/Queensbury area. This program was initiated after a private senior shuttle service stopped operating in 2022.

Deanna Park, the Director of Warren Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging, stressed the need for transportation for seniors in rural Warren County. She thinks the new program will help seniors stay independent. Denise DiResta, the Director of Warren County Veterans’ Services, has provided vans from her agency to support the program.

The service will run in the towns of Warrensburg, Bolton, Chester, Horicon, Johnsburg, Thurman, Stony Creek, and Hague. Seniors will be picked up from their homes twice a month. Other transportation services are available in Southern Warren County.

Kevin Geraghty, the Warrensburg Town Supervisor and Chairman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, is pleased with the new service. He noted the importance of the service for seniors without other transportation options. The end of the previous senior transportation program had been a problem for northern Warren County residents.

To use the service, individuals need to fill out a registration form on their first trip. For more information or to arrange a pickup, they can contact the Office for the Aging. The Warren County Veterans Services’ is also looking for per diem shuttle bus drivers.
