Dorsey-Evans will discuss the relationship between spoken word and Hip-Hop development, and how art can be used for social justice. The lecture will also mark the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop and its role in activism.

Dorsey-Evans, originally from Mayersville, MS, is working towards her Doctorate at The University of Memphis, focusing on African American Literature and Cultural Studies. She has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts from William Carey University.

Before MVSU, Dorsey-Evans taught English at South Delta High School for a year. She then joined MVSU, where she worked as the Sophomore Year Experience Coordinator.
