A Boil Water Advisory (BWA) is in effect for parts of Neosho County Rural Water District No. 4. The affected area is south of 47 Highway and west of Lyons Road. The advisory began on February 26, 2024, due to line maintenance causing low pressure in the water system. This low pressure may lead to bacterial contamination.

Residents in this area should boil water for one minute before drinking or cooking, or use bottled water. They should also throw away ice cubes and avoid using ice from home icemakers.

If tap water looks dirty, residents should let the water run until it clears. Dishes and food contact surfaces should be disinfected by soaking in clean tap water with one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water. Bathing water doesn't need to be boiled, but children should be supervised to prevent them from swallowing the water.

The advisory will stay in place until the risk of bacterial contamination is resolved. Only the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) can lift the advisory after lab testing. Residents can call the water system at 620-763-2242, or KDHE at 785-296-5514 for more information.

Restaurants and food businesses with questions can contact the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s food safety & lodging program at kda.fsl@ks.gov or 785-564-6767. More information is available on KDHE’s PWS Consumer Information webpage.
