The Lake George Arts Project will host an exhibition by artist John McGiff, titled 'Painting as Vision'. The exhibition will open at the Courthouse Gallery in Lake George, NY, on Saturday, March 16, 2024. A free artist's reception will also take place that day from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.

John McGiff, an experienced painter and teacher, recently relocated to the Hudson River Valley from Delaware. He previously served as the Chair of the Arts Department at St. Andrews School in Middletown. McGiff's work often focuses on a central theme, using color and design to express his ideas over time.

The exhibition will showcase a series of paintings called 'Icarus Unbound'. These works reinterpret classic Greek myths. The exhibition will also feature paintings of interiors and figures in a 'Rag' house, inspired by Indian Ragamala paintings.

The New York State Council on the Arts, the New York State Legislature, the Town and Village of Lake George, Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation, 518 Profiles, The Alfred Z Solomon Charitable Trust, and LGAP members have funded the exhibition. The Courthouse Gallery is at the side entrance of the Old County Courthouse, on Lower Amherst Street in Lake George, NY.

Those who wish to visit the exhibition outside of Gallery hours or request a group tour should contact June Waters, Director of Exhibitions, at june@lakegeorgearts.org. The gallery is open Wednesday through Friday 12 – 5 pm, and Saturday 12 – 4 pm during exhibitions.
