Charles Anthony Silvestri, a well-known poet, author, and composer, will host a two-day clinic at Barton Community College on March 21-22. The clinic will focus on lyric writing in choral settings and the business side of writing poetry for choral music. The public can attend these free sessions, which will take place at various locations in the college.

The first session, supported by Barton’s English Department and the “Prairie Ink” literary annual staff, will be from 6-7:30 p.m. on March 21 in the Barton Library's Cavanaugh Room. The session, called “Words and Music; a Workshop in Writing Lyrical Poetry”, will focus on creative and poetry writing.

The second session is scheduled for 10:30-11:30 a.m. on March 22 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Silvestri will discuss “Words and Music: Creative Collaboration and the Choral Arts.” This will be followed by a performance of some of Silvestri's works by the Barton concert choir and selected members of the Hoisington and Great Bend High School choirs at 12:30 p.m.

This clinic will offer attendees a chance to understand Silvestri's creative process and learn about writing for choral music.

For more details about the clinic, contact Dr. Eric Foley, the Director of Choral Activities, at foleye@bartonccc.edu or call (620) 792-9395.
