On March 11, 2024, the Oregon-Howell R-III Board of Education approved a hybrid 4-day school week calendar for the 2024-2025 academic year during their regular monthly meeting. The early release of the calendar is to help families plan ahead. The school day will still run from 8:10am to 3:16pm for all students from PreK to 12th grade, meeting the state-required 1044 instructional hours.

The total number of school days, as well as bus pickup and drop-off times, will remain unchanged. Students using the West Plains bus service will continue to have access to rural school buses to and from the Civic Center.

The new calendar will not impact students attending VOTECH. There will be no additional homework for students on non-school days, apart from unfinished classwork.

Childcare will be provided for students on non-holiday/non-vacation Mondays when school is not in session. These dates include September 9th and 16th, October 7th, 14th, and 21st, November 11th and 18th, December 2nd, January 13th, February 3rd and 10th, March 24th, April 7th and 14th, and May 5th and 12th.

In summary, the Oregon-Howell R-III Board of Education's decision to adopt a 4-day school week for the 2024-2025 academic year is designed to keep the same level of education and provide more flexibility for families. The length of the school day, bus schedules, and instructional hours will not change, and childcare will be available on specific non-school Mondays.

I feel like kids should be done with school by the end of 8th grade k thru 12 could be condensed the last few years should be career oriented and finance focused. This plan, doesn't extend hours at all and takes a day per week away from these kids that are behind after covid. Our entire country is far behind on education something better needs changed.
