The Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS) has initiated a program to provide free laptops to veterans and their spouses at Laurel Ridge Community College. This is a collaboration with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and Tech for Troops. The plan is to distribute 20 laptops at each of the 23 colleges in the VCCS. The laptops are not loans, but gifts for the veterans to keep.

John Hall, a manager at DVS, delivered the Dell laptops to Laurel Ridge’s Fauquier Campus. He hopes to extend the program to veterans' dependents within a year. The laptops are meant to help veterans with job searches, telemedicine appointments, and resume writing.

The DVS provides various services to veterans, including suicide prevention, homelessness combat, and mental health education. Hall highlighted the resources available to veterans through the DVS.

Jeanmarie Corrado, a veteran academic advisor at Laurel Ridge, thanked the DVS for the laptops. She noted the positive impact of the technology on veterans transitioning to new careers. Tech for Troops President Mark Casper confirmed a one-year warranty for the laptops and repair services.

Laurel Ridge Community College, established in 1970, is a public institution with multiple campuses. It serves eight localities in the Shenandoah Valley and northern Piedmont regions. The college offers over 75 degree and certificate programs to more than 9,000 credit students and 11,000 individuals in professional development and business courses each year. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
