The Unity House Plungers team took part in the Ithaca Polar Plunge at Taughannock Falls State Park on March 23, 2024, despite cold temperatures. They entered the 36-degree water of Cayuga Lake in Trumansburg and raised over $2,900 for Special Olympics New York. This was the third highest amount raised by Community Division teams.

The event, now in its 11th year, collected a total of over $83,500 to aid athletes with disabilities. Unity House's top fundraiser was Program Manager Nick White. He raised over $400, in part through a 'Change Jar Challenge' on his peer-to-peer fundraising page.

Unity House thanked Mary Simpson, James Beaumont, and Michelle Stage for their efforts in organizing the event. They also recognized Chris Teller, the PROS Employment Specialist, for designing this year's shirt.

Special Olympics New York offers inclusive opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The money raised through the Polar Plunge supports year-round sports training, competition, leadership, health, and inclusion programs.

The event saw participation from hundreds of people, aiding more than 68,000 New York State athletes with disabilities. The Unity House Plungers team's participation and fundraising efforts demonstrated their commitment to community support and inclusion.
