The Kankakee Community College (KCC) Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) associate degree program has received continued accreditation from the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) until 2029. KCC's MLT program has been voluntarily participating in the accreditation process since 1981. It is one of 240 accredited MLT programs in the U.S. and one of 10 in Illinois. The accreditation was renewed based on the program's adherence to standards and quality improvement over the last five years.

The Council for Higher Education Accreditation acknowledges NAACLS Accreditation. Lamanda Baade, KCC’s MLT program director, said the accreditation shows the program meets high educational standards. She also said it reflects the faculty's commitment to maintaining these standards and assures students and employers of the program's quality.

Medical laboratory technicians are important in patient care. They conduct lab tests, analyze specimens, and maintain equipment. The program also prepares graduates for medical laboratory science bachelor’s degree programs at selected state universities. The MLT program admits fifteen students each fall semester.

The program prepares students for entry-level jobs in all laboratory areas through classroom and clinical experience. It is affiliated with 20 Illinois hospitals. KCC’s graduates work in various settings including hospitals, clinics, research labs, public health facilities, and businesses.

For more information about the program, contact Lamanda Baade via email at lbaade@kcc.edu, phone at 815-802-8837, or submit an information request at https://healthcareers.kcc.edu.
