The Crowder College Speech and Debate Team finished its spring debate season at the Eddie Shell Invitational Tournament in Shreveport, LA. The Crowder team took part in 30 debate rounds, scoring an average of 33 out of 40 points per round, setting a team record.

Freshman Robin Chew, an experienced debater from Neosho, won half of her rounds, scoring an average of 36 out of 40 points. Doug Brown, a freshman from Joplin with no debate experience, won four of his six rounds, averaging 33 out of 40 points. Sheldon Robertson, also from Joplin and new to debate, lost his early rounds by a single point.

The team's coach, Michael Brockett, was pleased with the team's performance. He commended the hard work and effort of the freshman team, particularly considering the experience of the larger colleges and universities they competed against.
