Owasso Public Schools (OPS) recently hosted an event to honor its top Teachers, Substitute Teachers, and Support Employees of the year. Amanda Kennett was named Teacher of the Year, Sean Parker was recognized as Support Employee of the Year, and Susi Eastin was awarded Substitute Teacher of the Year. Kennett was selected from 15 OPS site Teachers of the Year by a committee of 30 educators from the district. District committees also voted on nominees for the other two awards.

OPS Superintendent Dr. Margaret Coates commended the honorees for their hard work and dedication. She noted Kennett's commitment to understanding her students, creating a supportive classroom environment. Parker was recognized for his significant contributions to the school's technology department, ensuring its efficient operation.

Dr. Coates also highlighted the important role of substitute teachers, praising Eastin for her dedication. Eastin was commended for her efforts to connect with each student, treating them with kindness and respect. Dr. Coates thanked these three individuals for their contributions to the Owasso Ram Family.

Kennett, a Spanish teacher for nearly 20 years, has spent 12 years at OPS. She earned degrees in Speech Pathology and Spanish from The University of Tulsa in 2002 and taught at the Owasso 6th Grade Center for seven years before moving to Tulsa Public Schools. She returned to OPS in 2019 and has been teaching at the 8th Grade Center since then. Kennett also holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Oklahoma State University.

Upon receiving the honor, Kennett expressed her gratitude towards her coworkers, who she considers as friends and family. She acknowledged their support and guidance over the years. Kennett, who was also named Teacher of the Year in 2015 while at the Zarrow International School in Tulsa, holds a National Board Certification and is a member of several professional organizations.
