Grays Harbor College (GHC) has started a new admissions program with local high schools in Grays Harbor and Pacific counties. This program is designed to make it easier for students graduating in 2024 to move on to higher education. As part of this, GHC will send acceptance letters to high school seniors in these counties. Lori Christmas, a director at GHC, said the aim is to reach all students graduating in 2024.

GHC will hold information nights to give potential students details about its programs, financial aid, and other topics. These events will be on May 2 at GHC’s Aberdeen campus, May 9 online, and May 15 at GHC’s Riverview Education Center in Raymond. Spanish translation will be provided.

Christmas said working with the community is key to making higher education available to everyone. She said GHC is working with local schools and groups to remove obstacles and create ways for all students to succeed. The new admissions program is one of several partnerships GHC has started this year.

GHC has also partnered with local autobody shops for a Career Launch program and with the Elma School District, Clover Park Technical College, the Washington State University School of Medicine, and AJAC Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeships for a learning network. GHC also has TRIO Upward Bound programs in Hoquiam, Ocosta, and Raymond high schools to help students plan for college or technical programs after they graduate.

Ashley Bowie Gallegos, a dean at GHC, said the new admissions program will make it easier for students to move on from high school. She also asked the community to help let people know about the program. High school seniors can confirm their acceptance to GHC by visiting the GHC website, calling, or visiting GHC in Aberdeen or Raymond.
