SUNY Adirondack and SUNY Plattsburgh Queensbury announced a dual admission agreement on April 15, 2024. The agreement will allow students to apply to selected programs at SUNY Adirondack and be accepted into related bachelor’s degree programs at SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury. The goal is to simplify the transfer process between the two institutions.

Johanna Duncan-Poitier, SUNY senior vice chancellor for Community Colleges and the Education Pipeline, and Kristine D. Duffy, Ed.D., president of SUNY Adirondack, both support the agreement. They believe it will benefit students who want to secure acceptance into SUNY Plattsburgh while earning an associate degree at SUNY Adirondack.

The agreement includes several degree programs. For example, students choosing Liberal Arts Humanities and Social Sciences with a concentration in Psychology at SUNY Adirondack can apply to a bachelor’s degree program in Psychology at SUNY Plattsburgh. Similar options are available for other programs such as Criminal Justice: Police Science, Liberal Arts Humanities and Social Sciences, and Computer Science or Information Technology: Cybersecurity.

Alexander Enyedi, Ph.D., president of SUNY Plattsburgh, supports the partnership. He believes it will help students pursue higher education and achieve their academic goals. He also mentioned that the collaboration shows the unity within the SUNY system.

SUNY Plattsburgh has been in Warren County for over 50 years, first at Queensbury High School, then at SUNY Adirondack in the 1990s. In 2005, the university opened an extension center at SUNY Adirondack and, in 2008, established a branch campus at a community college, becoming the first SUNY to do so.
