Parsons brings experience in education and administration to the role, where she will oversee various opportunities including pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships at Altec. The Golden LEAF Foundation provides funding for the FLEET program at Surry-Yadkin Works. The foundation, which aims to advance economic opportunity in North Carolina’s rural and economically distressed communities, awarded $603,230 for the implementation of FLEET. The program offers students classroom instruction, on-the-job training at Altec, work/life skills, mentorship, and employment opportunities. Surry-Yadkin Works, which began on January 1, 2021, is the first community-based internship program of its kind in North Carolina and covers a two-county region. It is a joint effort of four public school systems in Surry and Yadkin counties, and Surry Community College.
