Piedmont Technical College (PTC) is planning two graduation ceremonies on Thursday, May 2, 2024. These will take place at the James Medford Family Event Center on PTC’s Lex Walters Campus-Greenwood. The 11 a.m. ceremony will honor graduates from the Arts, Science, and Healthcare programs. The 3 p.m. ceremony will celebrate graduates from the Business, IT, Commercial Art, Public Service, and Engineering and Industrial Technology programs.

Justin Benfield, CEO of Prisma Health’s Laurens County and Hillcrest Hospitals, will give the keynote speech at both events. Benfield has been with Prisma Health since 2010. He leads Prisma Health’s Heart and Vascular Institute and oversees the rural health and surgical robotic strategies. C-suite Spotlight named him a top 25 Executive in South Carolina in 2023.

Jayce Gonzalez of Ninety Six will speak at the 11 a.m. ceremony. He will graduate with an associate degree in radiologic technology. Currently, he works as an X-ray technologist extern at Self Regional Healthcare. He was motivated by the late PTC student Gavin Trulove, who has two radiologic technology scholarships named in his memory.

Twanisha Cofield of Laurens will speak at the 3 p.m. ceremony. She is graduating with highest honors with an associate degree in human services. Cofield, a nurse for 10 years, joined the Human Services Program to expand her ability to help people. She received the Start-to-Finish Award from the HUS Program and is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Security measures will be enforced at the graduation ceremonies. Guests will need to pass through a weapons-detection scanner. The event requires tickets, and each ticket allows one seat only, including for children. The Emerald City Brass will play music at the event.
