More than 3,100 students from Grand Valley State University (GVSU) are expected to attend the Winter 2024 Commencement ceremonies on April 26 and April 27 at the Van Andel Arena. The events will celebrate graduates from various colleges within the university.

The first ceremony starts at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 26, for the College of Education and Community Innovation, Padnos College of Engineering and Computing, and Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies. On Saturday, April 27, there will be two ceremonies: at 10 a.m. for the Seidman College of Business and the College of Health Professions, and at 3 p.m. for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Kirkhof College of Nursing.

Timothy Shriver, chair of Special Olympics International and co-founder of UNITE, will give the commencement speeches on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Shriver plans to discuss the university's focus on inclusion, a key value in West Michigan, highlighted by the new Special Olympics Michigan Unified Sports and Inclusion Center.

Each ceremony will include a speech from a graduating student. Logyn Miller, a secondary education graduate, will speak on Friday. Jowei Yek, an international student with dual master's degrees, will speak on Saturday morning, followed by Elizabeth Schanz, a candidate for bachelor's degrees in multimedia journalism and dance, on Saturday afternoon.
