Clatsop Community College is preparing for its 2024 commencement ceremony, which will be held on June 14th at Patriot Hall on the CCC campus in Astoria. The ceremony is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. and will honor the achievements of 104 students who are set to graduate. Among them, 95 are candidates for associate degrees and 20 for certificates. The event will also acknowledge students who have completed the college’s GED program.

This year, the college will welcome Margo Lalich, an alumna and former Director of Public Health for Clatsop County, as the guest speaker. Lalich, a 1993 CCC graduate, has worked extensively in public and private health sectors globally, including in Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. Her career includes roles in clinical nursing, consulting, executive leadership, and disaster response.

The ceremony will also include speeches from Math Instructor Celeste Petersen, this year’s Faculty Marshal, and Student Marshals Taylor Falconer and Kris Reid. Asher Finch, President of the Associated Student Government, will speak as well. Falconer will lead the student processional at the start of the ceremony.

Interim President Teena Toyas has expressed pride in the graduates and highlighted the significance of the ceremony as a celebration of their hard work. Toyas also noted Lalich’s significant contributions to public health and her involvement with the North Coast EOL Collective, which supports holistic end-of-life care.
