The Cal Poly Music Department will host an event featuring the Boston-based duo Transient Canvas on May 30 and May 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Pavilion of the Performing Arts Center. This event is part of the annual Soundings multidisciplinary productions, which showcase works by music technology and composition students, and choreography by Theatre and Dance Department students.

Transient Canvas, consisting of bass clarinetist Amy Advocat and marimbist Matt Sharrock, collaborates with contemporary composers. During the Soundings performances, they will perform works by student composers, covering a range of musical styles such as electroacoustic, electronic, fusion, indie folk, metal, pop, and electronic dance music.

This year's Soundings production focuses on the theme of memory, exploring technology's impact on our recollection of the past, our present experiences, and our future visions. Julie Herndon, the director of Soundings, highlighted the significance of this theme and its connection to personal and collective stories.

Transient Canvas also engages in community outreach and supports emerging talent through their annual Composer Fellowship Program. They have commissioned over 90 works and perform regularly at various prestigious venues and festivals in the U.S. and internationally.
