Jefferson Community College announced that two of its students, Ashton R. Matthews from Watertown and Adrian L. Rathbun from Redwood, have received the 2024 State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence. This award, established in 1997, honors students who excel academically and contribute significantly in areas like leadership, athletics, community service, the arts, or career pursuits.

Ashton R. Matthews earned his Associate in Science degree in business in December. He was a leader in the Business Leadership and Career Skills club and a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. Matthews also worked with the local business community and completed an internship at the Disney College Program in Orlando, Florida. He is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance at Baruch University in New York City.

Adrian L. Rathbun, who will soon graduate with his Associate in Science degree in Business, has maintained a near-perfect GPA. He has served as a resident assistant, a student ambassador, and a leader in various clubs. Rathbun has also been involved with the Watertown Area Boxing Club and volunteered at his local church. He plans to continue his business studies at SUNY Potsdam and aims to become an entrepreneur in the childcare industry.

Both students will be recognized at Jefferson’s 60th Commencement Ceremony on May 17, 2024. Their achievements highlight their commitment to academic and community involvement, making them notable representatives of the student body at Jefferson Community College.
