Southeastern Illinois College (SIC) recently held its annual Scholarships Night at the Harry L. Crisp Student Center. The event, catered by the Falcon Bistro, included an Italian-style dinner and celebrated the academic achievements of students with the support of their families, friends, and donors. Dr. Karen Weiss, Vice President of Academic Affairs, thanked the donors for their contributions to student scholarships.

During the ceremony, scholarships were awarded to students who demonstrated academic and extracurricular excellence. Bradlee Thomas, Neva Wasson, and Ethan Bordoy from Harrisburg received awards for their involvement with the Forensic Falcons, SIC’s speech team. Specific scholarships recognized their achievements in academics, personal development, and leadership.

The event also highlighted the Warren and Noveta King-Priest Scholarship, given to Kaylee Klope of Stonefort and Tessa Harrison of Harrisburg for their pursuit of careers in elementary education. This scholarship underscores the King-Priest family’s dedication to education and community service.

Jennifer Johnson of Carmi and Tanya Peterson of Norris City were awarded the Kathy King Memorial Scholarship. As nontraditional student mothers, they show remarkable commitment to earning their nursing degrees while managing family responsibilities.

The evening concluded with awards in mathematics and science. Joey Payne of Eldorado received the June Rice Malan Memorial Mathematics Award for his excellence in calculus. Austin Robinson of Omaha and Morgan Snell of Geneseo received the Sam Porter Outstanding Chemistry Awards for their achievements in chemistry and future academic plans.
