Title: Eastern and ACM Provide Industrial Training for Mineral County Students

Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College (Eastern) and Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) recently hosted a tour for Mineral County Technical Center (MCTC) juniors and seniors. The event was held at ACM’s Western Maryland Works Training Center and Makerspace on April 25. It featured training areas like welding and 3D printing. MCTC’s principal, Loretta Lawson, along with instructors Jim Spurling and Gary Trail, guided the tour.

During the visit, students observed practical uses of the skills taught at ACM. Robert Prosser, an engineering adjunct at ACM, demonstrated welding equipment, which was well-received by the students. This experience showcased the practical training available at the facility.

Dr. Jennifer Light, ACM’s Industrial Technologies program director, discussed the partnership between Eastern and ACM. She highlighted its role in providing educational programs that lead to industry-recognized credentials and degrees, aiming to improve students' job prospects.

The collaboration, which began in August 2022, supports the Industrial Maintenance training program. This allows Eastern students to access advanced facilities at Western Maryland Works for their studies. The curriculum covers Maintenance Operations, Electrical Systems, and Process Control Systems.
