Local Medical Students Shine at Wayne State Symposium, Mentored by Karmanos Faculty

The 2024 Wayne State University (WSU) School of Medicine held its annual Medical Student Research Symposium on February 2. This event displayed the research of WSU medical students, allowing them to present their work and discuss it with peers. Ismail Aijazuddin took first place in the Public Health and Community Engagement category. His research, supported by Dr. Ammar Sukari, examined the disparities in health insurance coverage in vulnerable neighborhoods during the early COVID-19 pandemic, identifying key social health determinants.
