Washington State University (WSU) Spokane is planning a new facility, the Team Health Education Building, to improve the educational experience for health science students. This facility will include advanced simulation technology for the 1,200 students from the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, and the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. It aims to create a collaborative environment where students from different disciplines can learn together.

The design phase of the project has received $7 million from state funds for 2023. Bouten Construction and NAC Architecture have been chosen to design the building. The construction budget is estimated to be between $60 and $80 million, with work expected to begin in 2025. WSU Spokane is seeking additional funding from state and philanthropic sources to fully finance the project.

Daryll DeWald, WSU Health Sciences executive vice president and WSU Spokane chancellor, stated that the new building would improve the university's education and simulation programs, benefiting students and their future patients.

In preparation for this project, WSU Spokane has held listening sessions over the past five months with internal and external experts. These sessions have gathered insights into the needs of the current health education system and health providers. Eric Smith, the director of facilities and capital projects at WSU Spokane, emphasized the importance of these discussions in creating a facility that supports local and regional health needs and aligns with top health education facilities nationwide.
