Bank of America has supported student entrepreneurs at Buffalo State University with a $57,000 grant. This funding helps students participate in the New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC), a contest similar to 'Shark Tank' where students pitch business ideas to win prizes. The grant covers travel, lodging, and the salary of a program coordinator for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC)'s Bengal Entrepreneurship Program (BEP).

Under the SBDC's guidance, the BEP helps Buffalo State students develop entrepreneurial skills. Olivia Harbol, a business advisor at SBDC and the program coordinator, noted that the program is open to all students and includes weekly sessions to prepare for the NYBPC.

The grant also funds an SBDC student internship. Jamison Pomroy, a junior in computer information systems, has taken this role, assisting with event planning, marketing, and presentation skills. This internship offers practical experience in business.

The effectiveness of the grant was evident at the NYBPC regional round, where three out of five Buffalo State participants advanced to the semifinals. Two students, Jonah Christakis and Jada Ivey, reached the finals in Albany, supported by Harbol and Pomroy.

At the state competition, Christakis presented his company, 716 Corporate Housing, which manages temporary housing in Buffalo. Ivey showcased her sustainable clothing brand, XII XXI. Both students demonstrated their business skills and the practical impact of their ventures.
