The Hickory Museum of Art, in collaboration with the Juneteenth Collaborative of Catawba County, is announcing a call for artists for the upcoming Juneteenth Art Contest. This event will take place during the Juneteenth Opening Night on May 30, 2024. Artists are encouraged to submit works that explore themes of liberation, heritage, and equality. The contest offers a platform for artists to share their historical and personal stories, cultural traditions, or visions of an inclusive future.

Artists must submit 2D artworks no larger than 8.5” x 11”. Each piece should include the necessary hardware for gallery display. Submissions must be received by May 17, 2024. For more information or to submit artwork, please contact Karla Starnes at the museum.

The selected artworks will be displayed at the Juneteenth Opening Night Meet and Greet, from 6 to 8 PM on May 30, 2024. During this time, from 6 to 7:30 PM, attendees can view and judge the artworks. The winner will be announced at the end of the event and will have their artwork featured on the official Juneteenth T-shirt for Catawba County.

Additionally, the winning artwork and other selected pieces will be available for purchase as prints and coffee mugs through the Juneteenth Collaborative of Catawba County’s online store. This initiative aims to celebrate artistic expression and support local artists by making their work available to a broader audience.
